Consider working mothers, employers urged
Companies recruiting for account manager positions should be more creative when considering potential applicants, according to new advice.
Gillian Nissim, founder of Workingmums.co.uk, has pointed out that the skills offered by mothers could be of use in a variety of positions - potentially account manager roles.
Ms Nissim explained that the role of being a mother requires a diverse set of skills that are honed in the field of parenting, but are transferable to other endeavours.
"They tend to have excellent time management skills, are good at prioritising, able to balance a huge number of different tasks and are great at inter-personal skills such as negotiation and patience," she said.
A survey of mothers by the organisation has found that 73 per cent feel there is a lack of available jobs appropriate to their position.
Some 15 per cent of those polled had been refused a request for flexible hours, with 86 per cent citing malleable daily patterns as their most desired working condition.
The survey has emerged after minister for equality Harriet Harman attracted controversy with new proposals to condone positive discrimination in favour of ethnic minority candidates and women.
