Work experience "highly advantageous" for sales jobs
Having work experience relevant to any sales jobs you are applying for is "highly advantageous", a leading retail company says.
Lush's retail director Liz Bennet and staff trainer Lisa Titcomb claim some of the skills they look for are often missing from academic courses.
They say: "Being a retail business, we would definitely appreciate more time being spent on leadership in education."
Believing this quality desirable for sales jobs, they claim it is often neglected during academic studies.
Identifying the importance of common sense, they also say it is a benefit if prospective employees have developed some experience with the skills sales jobs require.
They claim it is difficult to tell if transferable skills in their workforce have come from education or previous employment.
Recent research conducted by the Learning Skills Council reported 61 per cent of respondents felt a lack of time was the biggest restraint on training employees.
